Viscosity solutions are what remain when classical solutions break down — when the equation can no longer be satisfied smoothly and you need a weaker notion of truth to continue. The breaking wave is the same thing made physical. The wall of water is smooth, organised, until it isn’t. The curl at the crest is the last moment of coherence. After that: foam, fragmentation, the solution in a generalised sense only. I wanted the paint to carry the weight of it — and watercolour, for once, obliged.
