Three sources, three colours, one medium that doesn’t care about boundaries. Diffusion is indifferent to intention — it spreads what it has, at the rate the mathematics allows, until the concentrations equalise and there is no longer a blue or a green or a red, only what they became together. I wanted to see the moment just before that — when you can still tell them apart if you look carefully, but the mixing has already begun and cannot be stopped. The paper did the rest.
