I was thinking about passage through a diffusion barrier — the moment a process crosses from one regime into another. The dark branching form is not an obstacle but a map of where the crossing happened, traced backwards from the light. The teal pools collect in the low zones, deep and still. Above them, white breaks through in irregular clearings. The branch does not lead anywhere; it records having passed. That is the distinction I was after — between a path and a trace of a path. This image landed closer to the trace.
